A 95-year-old woman has hit out at vandals who desecrated her sister's grave.
Blanche Race went to tend the plot at Morton Cemetery on Sunday and found the stone had been pushed over.
Several other graves at the site, in Bradford Road, Riddlesden, have also been attacked. Bradley woman Blanche, whose sister Ruby Morrison died last year aged 96, told us: "I had called at the cemetery to remove any dead flowers from the grave and was shocked at what I found. The stone had been smashed - it was heartbreaking."
Another visitor to the cemetery was Carol Rothery, from Lincolnshire who makes the journey to the site every month to visit her parents' grave. "Fortunately their plot wasn't touched but I counted 16 stones that had been pushed over - it is appalling and must be awful for those families affected," she said.
"I reported it to the police and spoke to someone at Utley Cemetery, which seemingly oversees Morton Cemetery as well, who said there had been another vandalism problem just weeks earlier."
Bradford Council and the police said they were working together to try to catch the culprits. Susan Cannan, the council's bereavement services manager, told us: "We are aware of this vandalism and we went out to check the situation straight away. Unfortunately this is the second time within two weeks that graves there have been vandalised.
"We sympathise with the families that may have been affected by this and realise it can be very upsetting.
"Our park rangers have been made aware of the situation and we urge the public to contact them or the police if they see people causing a nuisance in the cemetery. Park rangers can be contacted on 01274 432696."
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said officers would be paying close attention to the area in the coming weeks. Anyone witnessing incidents can contact the Keighley East neighbourhood policing team on 01535 617119.
