Bradford Council should scrap any idea of driving a bypass through Keighley's historic Park Wood, according to town councillors.
Councillors Siobhan Alderson and Judith Brooksbank have both argued that the green space needs to be preserved.
Cllr Alderson, who along with Cllr Brooksbank represents Long Lee and Parkwood Ward, voiced her concern at this month's meeting of the full Keighley Town Council.
Her views were also aired at a meeting of the council's watch and transport committee.
Committee members suggested that alternative routes lower down the hillside, running between the Marley roundabout and central Keighley, could avoid the wood.
They recognised traffic pressure on the town centre was likely to increase and said all possible solutions - including park and ride - should be examined.
Long-term proposals for a possible eastern relief road through Park Wood have also provoked opposition from residents, who argue the wood is a valuable asset to Keighley.
Bradford Council leader Cllr Kris Hopkins said he understood why people were worried about the wood's future but stressed people needed to be consulted about all potential options.
