Keighley library's refurbishment could be in line for a coveted award.

The £1.1 million revamp is among a record number of entries in this year's Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Pro Yorkshire Awards.

The RICS "Oscars" are designed to reward developments that have made the most impact on the region in the past three years. The awards are divided into eight categories.

Initial judging takes place this month, when a shortlist will be drawn up. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Leeds, on May 23.

RICS northern operations director Jennifer Welch said: "We are delighted by the high quality of the entries and by the geographic spread. The judges will have a tough time assessing the schemes."

Keighley Library - in North Street - reopened last August following the refurbishment, which included the restoration of the interior to its original arts and crafts state and the cleaning of the stained glass windows.

The grade two listed building had been closed for six months while work was carried out.
