Railway enthusiasts are getting all steamed up about Easter.

The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway this year is staging its longest ever period of Easter-holiday operation, daily from March 21 to April 6.

And for the first time there will be an all-steam service from Good Friday to Easter Monday and a new hourly diesel service between March 31 and April 4.

Already this year, which marks the 40th anniversary of the K&WVR, timetable changes have brought forward first steam trains each day by 15 minutes.

Easter will also see the appearance of the K&WVR's Railway Rabbit children's mascot, who will be helping with a new quiz as well as greeting passengers and posing for photos.

And on March 22, Keighley's town mayor Councillor Brian Hudson will open an anniversary exhibition at the Museum of Rail Travel, adjacent to Ingrow West Station.

K&WVR operating chairman Sam MacDougall said: "Travel and holiday patterns have been changing for some years and Easter has always been one of our busiest periods.

"This Easter we will cater for increasing demand by running more steam trains and more heritage diesels over more dates and at what we hope will be more convenient times than ever before.

"This does place even greater demands, not only on our volunteer operators - the drivers, guards, signalmen and station staff - but also on those who work long hours to maintain and prepare the carriages and locomotives, for the trips.
