A woman who travelled to Uganda last year to support a school and orphanage has launched a fresh appeal to help build a new clinic.
Christine Prosser, of Haworth, would like to raise up to £4,000 to build and equip the facility in the remote town of Ndeje. She visited the area last October while taking part in a separate project, closer to the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
She said the town currently had no proper medical facilities and its location meant ill people currently faced a journey of many miles over poor roads to get help.
"We had a 4x4 vehicle when we went there but we still got stuck in the mud," she said. "They've got a trained nurse and midwife, they've got the bricks to start building the clinic and the people to do the work. But they've had to stop because they don't have the money.
"The actual building cost is only about £1,500 to £2,000 but then there's all the expensive equipment to go inside.
"It'll cost a maximum of £3,500 to £4,000. This is so badly needed because there just isn't anywhere else for people to go. Because of all the dust even a small cut can quickly fester."
She said anyone willing to make a donation could do so by contacting Phil or Libby Chappell on 01943 430744, or at philchappell@blueyonder.co.uk.
