A VILLAGE church has won recognition for its environmental efforts.
St Stephen's at Steeton has been presented with a Bronze Eco-Church Award by the Christian charity, A Rocha UK.
The accolade covers areas including worship and teaching, management of church buildings and land, community and global engagement, and lifestyle.
Dr Tom Chilton, environmental officer at St Stephen's and a member of its ministry team, said: "I am absolutely delighted that our church has received this award.
"We have an active 'eco team' that has looked in detail at all aspects of our church life.
"The challenge now is to do more, and move from bronze to silver and gold! The problems facing our planet can feel immense, but we can all do our bit to help."
The award was presented by the Rev Anthony Bennett, a temporary priest working with the church.
He said: "It’s wonderful to have been able to present the eco team with this award. They’re a dedicated bunch of people."
As part of its harvest celebrations on October 2, from 10am, St Stephen’s is planning a special day focussing on the issue. For more details contact Dr Chilton on 07821 955885, email docno2020@gmail.com or visit ststephenschurchsteeton.com.
