The manager of a Keighley recreation centre says the facility is currently underused.

Oakbank Recreation Centre is based within Oakbank School and has been up and running for more than 20 years.

But manager Andrew Sharp-les said even people living nearby did not seem to know what was on offer.

"As a sports college we aim to raise community usage of the school's facilities outside of normal school hours," he said.

"We do get busier in the winter thanks to our indoor provision.

"But we have a massive Astroturf pitch which is virtually unused from Easter through to September.

"It's crying out to be used, maybe people just don't realise it's there."

He said the centre offered a variety of other activities and he wanted to get away from the idea that a recreation group was only about five-a-side football and badminton.

"We also offer things like Arabic dancing, taekwondo, two gyms, table tennis and a dance studio," he said.

"We can cater for children as young as four, up to people in their 60s and 70s."

He added the centre was suitable for youth groups, sports clubs requiring training facilities and individuals.

It also includes an eight-metre climbing wall, three cricket nets and a basketball court. For further information phone 01535 609155.
