A 22-year-old woman was rapped by magistrates and given a suspended prison sentence for failing to complete a £450 compensation order.

Emma Templeton, of West Bank Road, Keighley, appeared in Bingley Court from police cells on Friday after being arrested the previous day.

Magistrates heard that she still owed £151 and had not made a payment in almost two-and-a-half years.

Templeton, 22, had also made 13 previous appearances before the court for failure to complete the order.

She told the court that she assumed the money was being taken from her benefits but admitted that she had worked on some occasions and had not made any payments.

Presiding magistrate Glynis Wilkinson told Templeton: "You have come to the end of the road. You have had money and you knew you owed £450.

"It is not acceptable - you have an appalling record of not paying."

The bench agreed to suspend the 14-day sentence so long as she paid £5 a week.

Templeton's mother, who was in court, said she would make an initial payment of £10.
