A public meeting is being held in Keighley next week as part of a campaign opposing a relief road through Park Wood.

Local Liberal Democrats have organised Wednesday's meeting, in Long Lee Village Hall, at 6.30pm.

They have launched a "Don't Axe Park Wood" fight after the long-touted scheme for a Keighley eastern relief road, which would be routed through the Parkwood area, reappeared on the district agenda.

Spokeswoman Judith Brooksbank, pictured, said: "Next week's meeting is the second we have organised to let people have their say and to show there are alternatives to building the relief road. We want people to contribute their own ideas for resolving the town's traffic problems."

Bradford Council's executive met earlier this month to discuss measures to ease the Aire Valley's traffic-clogged roads.

Proposals for the eastern relief road and the conversion of Hard Ings Road into a dual carriageway were on a "shopping list" for the future but were not a priority, it was stated.
