A dedicated Keighley Scouter and former member of the Royal Navy has died, aged 83.

Sidney William Olsson, who was born in Hull, first worked as a joiner and then in construction management until 1955.

During this time he was enrolled in the navy in 1942. On his return from service after the war, he was introduced to Olga through his sister Doreen, when they both used to work at the railway offices in Hull. Theywere married on March 8, 1947.

In 1955 the couple moved to Peterborough, where Mr Olsson became a college lecturer in building. By 1958, he had moved to Keighley to lecture in carpentry, building and joinery at Keighley College. He was to spend the rest of his life in the town, where, he maintained his commitment to the Scouts - particularly after the birth of his children, Christine, Trevor, Colin and Paul.

At Ingrow Scouts, he took over the role of commissioner in 1962. He also played an active role in West Yorkshire Guides, through the connections of his wife, and together the pair were instrumental in establishing WYNCHES, a campsite for West Yorkshire Guides, in Burley Woodhead. Mr Olsson regularly attended St John's Parish Church, in Ingrow, where he was a committed member for 50 years, and where his funeral was held on Friday.
