Customers of a Keighley café are helping keep soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan stocked up with essentials.

Visitors to Le Paradis, fronting on to Town Hall Square, have donated dozens of items to Support Our Soldiers. The goods will be packed into boxes and sent out to servicemen and women in war-torn countries.

Now café owner Judith Eden has called on all local people to donate a wide range of items for the soldiers. They can include toiletries, snacks, clothing, tablets, books, pens, playing cards, blank greetings cards and portable hand warmers.

Le Paradis last month became the Keighley collection point for Support Our Soldiers.

Judith had been approached by a customer who supported the charity.

Bingley woman Karen Webster set up SOS while her son, Nicky, served in Iraq in 2003. She won the right for troops to receive free post in time to send 5,000 boxes abroad before Christmas.

Judith said Karen had already taken the first consignment from Le Paradis and there was another stack of items ready to go.

Julie said: "We've had a good response, people are being quite generous.

"People don't have to make them up into shoe boxes, we'll do that. They can bring just one thing."

Items can be dropped off at the Cooke Street café any day except Sunday, from 8am until 5.30pm.

Judith has lists of which types of items are suitable for being transported to war zones. The charity can be contacted at the website supportoursoldiers.co.uk.
