International Women's Day celebrations in Keighley attracted around 200 people on Saturday Organisers of the fun day at Highfield Community Centre were delighted with the turnout.

Fazeela Hanif, the centre's development manager, was pleased to attract people from all sections of the community.

She hopes many will return to try some of the regular activities at the Drewry Road building. Attractions on Saturday included a fashion show, children's plays, face painting and a Bengali dance group.

Highfield Community Association, which runs the centre, organised the event.

She said: "I'm trying to get people from lots of different backgrounds using the centre. It's about getting the centre well known within the community and getting new activities." Existing activities include women's sauna and yoga sessions, sewing, English classes, a baby clinic and health advice.

There are weekly young people's sessions and an after-school club, plus storytimes and a creche for younger children.

Fazeela wants to hear from anyone willing to volunteer at the centre. She can be contacted on 01535 608900 or 665364.
