Cut-price vaccinations are being offered for cats, dogs and rabbits in Keighley to slash the disease rate.

Aireworth Vets want to tackle the high rate of canine parvovirus and cat flu in the local area.

The surgery is offering the service throughout March as part of National Vaccination Month.

Owners can give the animals a full vaccination course for the price of a booster.

Recent research by animal health company Intervet uncovered a number of serious and deadly animal diseases in the region.

It identified the Bradford postcode as an "area of high or increasing risk" of canine parvovirus and cat flu.

Colin Thomson, from Aireworth Vets, said he had observed the trend locally.

He said: "In February alone we treated three puppies with suspected parvovirus.

"Dogs with the disease have to be treated in isolation and may require intravenous fluids and expensive drug treatments.

"Sadly the disease is usually fatal - at least 80 per cent of unvaccinated cases will die."

The offer is available to dogs or cats that have not been vaccinated in the past 18 months and the last nine months for rabbits. People should download a voucher from vaccinationmonth.co.uk and book an appointment with Aireworth Vets on 01535 602988.
