A queen has succeeded to the Silsden throne and will be officially crowned on the town's gala day.

Katie Bush, 11, from Hothfield Junior School, will represent Silsden in more than six galas across the area.

The event which saw her picked to perform the honour was also a fundraising event held by Silsden Gala Committee. The committee chairman, Chris Atkinson, said that the evening had been a huge success.

He said: "We had 21 entrants for this year's gala queen. Over 100 people attended and we charged £5 on the door for adults, which included pie and peas."

He thanked X-factor contestant Luke Bayer, who presented the queen with her sash and crown, and the Sunnybank Social Club Committee where the event was held.

Katie Bush will be officially crowned at the gala on July 27, when she will be flanked by her two rosebuds, eight-year-old Ella Mawsby and five-year-old Bethan Ravenscroft.
