Haworth's Beaver Scout colony is celebrating winning this year's Challenge Flag competition.

A team of four children from the group - Matthew Worstead, Luke Green and Sasha and Kerrianne Stott, pictured, - beat off competition from other Beaver colonies in Keighley district. Teams competed in a variety of mental and physical contests at Haworth's Community Centre. The challenges included quizzes and code-breaking exercises.

Haworth Beaver leader Marilyn Prince said: "They were thrilled to have won. This is the second time we've won this challenge - we also managed it three years ago. We'll definitely work hard to defend our title next year."

n The colony has marked its 15th birthday with a party at its headquarters in Butt Lane.

The Haworth Beavers were set up early in 1993 by residents Ms Prince and Philip Turner and originally met in the parish church hall. The colony now meets in the community centre every Wednesday evening in school term time.

Ms Prince said the group was currently fully subscribed and even had a waiting list. It's proved very successful," she added. "The party went extremely well and a lot of our previous group leaders came back to see us. There was food and games and everyone had a great time."
