Cash awards totalling nearly £5,000 have been presented to uniformed groups in Keighley.

Members of the Scout and Girlguiding movements and Sea Cadets have shared in the handouts, from Bradford Council children's services.

In total 44 groups from across the Bradford district have received funds from a £20,000 pot. Cheques were handed out in a ceremony at City Hall on Tuesday.

The presentations were made by Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Elaine Byrom and the council's executive member for children's services, Councillor Colin Gill.

Cllr Byrom said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the council to support the excellent work that the uniformed groups are doing in different parts of Bradford district."

Cllr Gill added: "The uniformed groups in our villages, towns and city do a wonderful job in giving young people and children the chance to take part in lots of different and exciting activities, learn new skills and build new friendships." Keighley Guides and Scouts Enterprise Project received £1,000; 25th Keighley (Long Lee) Scout group, Girlguiding Keighley division, Keighley Sea Cadets, 1st Keighley (Fell Lane) Scout group, 19th Keighley (Ingrow) Scouts and 1st Denholme with 8th Bingley Scout group each received £500; Keighley Explorer Scouts were awarded £450, 3rd Keighley Brownies £142 and 1st Oakworth Brownies £97.50.
