A gunman burst into a garage and sprayed bullets around the workshop.

Two men working in the premises - at Bradford Street, Keighley - escaped injury.

Police say the incident was a targeted attack and they are keen to reassure the public about its safety. The gunman and an accomplice entered Auto Transform just before 5.30pm.

A mechanic and the manager were working on a car at the time.

One of the assailants fired four shots from a handgun in the direction of the victims. Two bullets hit another vehicle and the other two embedded themselves in a wall. The gunman and his accomplice fled the premises on foot down a snicket into Emily Street and escaped along Lawkholme Lane or Bradford Road. Police believe they may then have made their getaway in a waiting vehicle.

Det Insp Peter Craig, of Airedale and North Bradford CID, said it was a serious offence but the general public was not believed to be in danger.

He said: "It is not a random attack. It is a targeted attack on individuals and individual premises. We are continuing to make inquiries into the motive.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the suspects running from the premises or might have spotted a car either parked or being driven suspiciously nearby."

He added that neighbourhood policing teams would be stepping up patrols in the area to provide a high-visibility reassurance to the community.

Both suspects were Asian men, aged 18 or 19. The gunman was 6ft tall and very skinny. He was wearing a black hoody with a white motif, black jeans, a black scarf across his face and a black Cossack-style hat with ear-flaps and a flap at the front.

His accomplice was lighter skinned and of medium build, 5ft 8-10in tall and was wearing a white baseball cap, black hooded Lacoste or Berghaus jacket and black jeans.
