Firefighters were called out when a DIY job sparked a blaze alert.

A fire broke out as a man tackled electrical wiring work in the kitchen of a house in Exley Road, Keighley.

The incident happened shortly before 6.30pm yesterday.

Joe O'Keeffe, of Keighley fire service, said fumes from material the man was using ignited when the cooker was switched on.

"It was very difficult to ascertain the cause - we could rule out the wiring because there was no electricity to it - but the man was using a high-expansion foam and when we looked at the directions for use on the can we realised what had happened.

"The foam was highly flammable and you are supposed to use it in a well ventilated area - fumes had built up and ignited.

"Fortunately the fire was minimal and was out when we arrived.

"Anyone using DIY products should always check the instructions first and ensure you adhere to them and take notice of any warnings."

Two crews from Keighley Fire Station attended the incident.
