Most children would view extra maths homework as a chore, but Oxenhope Primary School pupils have managed to make money from it.

The school of just 147 children has raised a whopping £1,140 for the NSPCC through doing maths tests and puzzles.

Sarah Tarpey, from the NSPCC in West Yorkshire, said the pupils had really risen to the challenge.

She said: "They did maths challenges to improve their skills, which included solving problems and puzzles, doing their tables and addition and subtraction.

"Their parents and friends of parents sponsored them to do it and they have managed to raise a lot for such a small school."

Acting head teacher at Oxenhope Primary Lynda Florence said that the amount of money pupils raised was a testament to how motivated they were.

She said: "I think it is absolutely fantastic and they should be really proud of themselves and their efforts."

The money raised will go towards helping children supported by the NSPCC in Keighley.
