A man was found hiding a bag of cannabis in his pants, magistrates heard.

Mohammed Faisal Ayub, 21, pleaded guilty to possession of £20 worth of the class C drug.

The court heard on Friday that Ayub and a friend were stationary in a VW Passat, just off Main Street, Cross Hills, on Thursday, March 13, when police approached the car.

Prosecution solicitor Susan Kerr said the area was known to police as a place for dealing drugs to young people.

"The officers noticed the VW Passat with two males in it and a group of children surrounding it. The children moved away as the police approached.

"They went to the driver's door and could smell cannabis and could see that both driver and passenger were acting nervously," Mrs Kerr said.

The police officers told Ayub, who was a passenger in the car, and his friend that they were going to search the vehicle, which is when Ayub pulled a bag of cannabis from his pants.

Ayub, of Devonshire Street, Keighley, was fined £100 for possessing cannabis and was ordered to pay £75 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Magistrates, sitting at Skipton, also made an order for the confiscation and destruction of the cannabis.
