Playgrounds, traffic calming and a recreation centre are among planned improvements in Cross Roads.

The village park could also be lit up as part of "urban village" proposals just unveiled.

Bradford Council has given £50,000 for the project to spend in Cross Roads, Lees and Haworth Brow. Some of the schemes will attract extra funding.

The Urban Village plans were developed over several months by district and parish councils, community groups and local organisations. They suggested projects under the five priorities of safer routes, youth inclusion, environment, citizenship and community space. Residents of the three neighbourhoods were recently asked to vote on their favourite schemes.

Measures include drop kerbs for wheelchair and pushchair users, traffic calming, parking restrictions and safe crossings.

Youth activities will include sports, environmental and arts projects, training in trade skills, and youth volunteering.

There will be playgrounds in key locations and a new "youth shelter". The plans call for lighting and other improvements in Cross Roads Park, festive lighting, clean-ups, and community recycling.

There will be community noticeboards.

Cross Roads and Lees Gala will receive support. Around £3,000 will be spent on developing a recreational activity centre, including a feasibility study, programme planning and networking.

The Urban Village draft spending plan was approved last month by Bradford Council's Keighley Area Committee.
