A RIDDLESDEN man completed the Great North Run in support of a children's hospice.
Alex Young tackled the world-famous half marathon, from Newcastle to South Shields, to raise money for Martin House.
His efforts have coined-in over £1,000.
"I have two young children myself and wanted to do something for Martin House – which helps children and their families during what must be incredibly difficult circumstances," says Alex, 34, a self-employed carpenter.
"The run was challenging – the course is quite hilly – but running over the Tyne bridge is unbelievable.
"Those hills would be hard on any other day, but the support of everybody stood on the route gives you that extra bit of fuel. The kindness shown is so moving. I have never experienced an atmosphere like it. I would recommend to everybody to try it at some point in your life!"
