NEW 20mph speed limits are being introduced around two Keighley schools.
Keighley St Andrew's and Our Lady of Victories primaries are amongst 24 schools across the Bradford district where zones are being implemented.
In some cases, traffic calming measures – such as speed bumps – will also be installed.
Work is starting this month and should be complete by early next year.
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw – Bradford Council's portfolio holder for regeneration, planning and transport – says: "Safety is our number one priority and these new speed reduction zones should substantially reduce injuries and deaths around schools.
"They also have an additional benefit of improving air quality, which is especially important near schools.
"When combined with education and enforcement, these new zones should make our district’s children safer and healthier."
The zones will encompass as wide an area as possible around the schools, so that pupils journeying to and from school on foot benefit from reduced speeds for the whole of their walk.
Similar 20mph areas are already in place around a number of schools in the district.
Bradford Council and partner organisations are also undertaking a range of work to improve road safety, including programmes in schools and colleges.
