TRAIN operator Northern – which runs services on the Airedale line – is introducing new timetables next month.

And the company is urging all customers, particularly those who have made regular trips on the same trains, to check online journey planners before travelling.

Northern says that the new timetables – which come into effect on Sunday, December 11 – include some "significant" changes to service times and stopping points.

"The timetables will see the introduction of new services as well as changes to many existing ones," said a spokesperson.

"These changes may include departure and arrival times and/or alterations to stopping points on the journey. Therefore, customers should refer to online journey planners, as their regular trip be impacted."

Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, running nearly 2,000 services a day to more than 500 stations across the north of England.

Earlier this month, the company completed its first makeover of a Class 150 unit with technology – the same used by NASA to map the surface of the moon – which will monitor and report back on any issues that could potentially affect operations. It is undergoing a three-month trial.
