KEIGHLEY MP Robbie Moore is to present a new 'breakaway bill' to Parliament.
He has submitted an updated version of his Local Authority Boundaries (Referendums) Bill, which is scheduled to be presented after Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday, December 7.
Mr Moore says if the bill is passed, it would enable a referendum to be held on whether Keighley and Shipley should leave the control of Labour-run Bradford Council.
He and fellow Conservative MP Philip Davies, of neighbouring Shipley, have long campaigned for the two constituencies to form a new unitary local authority.
Mr Moore says: "Bradford Council is one of the largest unitary authorities in the country with a population of over 550,000 people. This is far too large, and we are constantly experiencing the downfalls of this through a lack of service provision."
But council leader Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe argues that the local authority will always stand up for the whole district and promote investment and opportunity in Keighley.
When Mr Moore's original bill was presented earlier this year, she said Keighley was "the focus of much of our high-end manufacturing in the district" and that the council was "very proud of the innovations and growth" happening here.
