TRIBUTE has been paid to a stalwart member of Keighley Labour Party.
John Prestage has received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his services to the constituency party.
The presentation was made at an event celebrating the 100th anniversary of Keighley electing its first Labour MP, Hastings Lees-Smith.
Mr Prestage – a Labour member since 1948 – came to Keighley in 1961, when he worked as a party organiser.
Since then he has served in a number of different roles – from a branch chair to councillor and member of the party’s national Parliamentary committee.
Three years ago, Mr Prestage received a national award in recognition of half a century as a Co-operative Party secretary.
After being presented with his latest honour by Adrian Farley, chair of Keighley Constituency Labour Party, Mr Prestage thanked everyone present and joked that it had been 30 years since he received his first long-service award.
