A VILLAGE pub knows its onions – and the local primary school has benefited.
For every portion of onion rings sold during the past year, the Hare and Hounds at Lothersdale has donated 50p to the village school.
And the initiative has served up a tasty £685.
Darren Dunn, who runs the popular pub, says: "This is just a great way for us to help the local community. Our guests love the onion rings, so with 50p going to the school from every portion we sell it's simply another excuse to order and enjoy them!"
Darren staged a similar venture when he ran the Lister Arms in Malham – and over the years he donated thousands of pounds to Kirkby Malham Primary School.
Lothersdale Primary School thanked the Hare and Hounds for its support and said the donation would go towards a project to carry out improvements to the playground.
