WORK will start next month on the £200,000 first phase of improvements to a Harden garden centre.
The scheme will include new roofing for the gardening and restaurant areas at the Stephen H Smith site, in Wilsden Road.
There will also be new plant benches, the giftware area will be refurbished and the restaurant revamped.
The plans have been announced by directors of the YGC Group, the parent company of Tong and Tingley garden centres which bought Stephen H Smith's Otley and Harden premises earlier this year.
Mark Farnsworth, group managing director, says: "Improving the popular gardening areas at the Harden centre is top of our priority list for phase one, and we're looking forward to sharing the revamped areas with customers old and new in the spring.
"The centre will remain open, with a full range of stock, whilst the improvements take place."
Mr Farnsworth and fellow group founder Tom Megginson bought Tong Garden Centre in 2015 and opened the £14m Tingley site in September this year. Plans to develop the Stephen H Smith Otley site – with a £500,000 investment in the gardening, restaurant and gift areas, together with a new food hall – were announced last month.
