PEOPLE across the district are being urged to support Christingle services.

The plea has been issued by the Children's Society, which says the events play a key role in supporting its work.

Some services have already taken place locally, but more are planned in the run up to Christmas.

Christingle events centre around children decorating oranges with red ribbon, cocktail sticks and sweets – which, as well as a candle, highlight different parts of the Christian story.

All funds raised go to the Children's Society in support of its efforts to help vulnerable youngsters facing abuse, neglect or exploitation.

Mark Russell, for the society, says: "Christingle is a tradition that has been taking place for over half a century and these events are an opportunity for people of all ages to join in.

"We’re thrilled that many Christingle events are happening across West Yorkshire to help us be there for the vulnerable children we support, and we are truly grateful to everyone who attends.

"These services make it possible for us to continue with our vital work and transform the lives of even more children in need of our help."
