A CHARITY has welcomed the extended £2 price cap for single bus journeys.
The initiative already operated within West Yorkshire, but now – with Government funding – has been expanded to other areas until the end of March.
Friends of the Dales campaigns for subsidised bus travel so that more people from the Keighley district and other areas bordering the Yorkshire Dales can access the national park.
The charity's executive director Ann Shadrake says that whilst the "short-term" Government subsidy is welcome, she warns: "Long-term funding is what's really required to secure the future of routes and encourage more people to use them."
Friends of the Dales financially supports the social enterprise bus network, DalesBus.
Its volunteer finance director, Paul Chattwood, says: "The £2 fare is a great offer and we hope it will tempt the uninitiated to try public transport as a new means of getting into the Dales."
