A COMMUNITY is branching out.
An orchard planting day took place at Denholme.
Volunteers turned out in force to help with the initiative, in Foster Park.
The idea for the project began when Denholme Youth Cafe's Juniors group proposed adding a fruit tree to its community garden.
Instead plans for an orchard were drawn up and Fruit Works Co-operative, a Bradford Council tree-planting partner, became involved.
Funding was provided through CNet.
Kelly Robertson, for the youth cafe, says: "There was a great turnout for the planting day.
"Denholme now has an orchard, with plans to add berry bushes.
"The project will mean free fruit for the community, and it will enable people to learn about fruit trees."
Anyone interested in becoming involved should email Denholmeyouthcafe@yahoo.com.
