CRAVEN Council is part of an initiative aimed at tackling a shortage of swimming teachers in North Yorkshire.
It is estimated that across the county, including South Craven, more than 2,500 children are currently on waiting lists for swimming lessons.
Now a campaign is underway to recruit and train more teachers.
The Institute of Swimming has partnered with Craven Council and several other leisure providers to launch an academy.
Its aim is to recruit and train 30 teachers to cover a variety of sessions and hours.
Participants will pay £79 for the training, compared to the normal £1,000 cost.
"There are no educational restrictions to apply and you don’t even need to be an expert swimmer," said a spokesperson.
"Being a swimming teacher offers flexible work that might suit someone who is looking for additional income, students and the retired. The key hours of work are often in the afternoon and at weekends."
Participants will complete the Swim England Level 1 swimming assistant (teaching) course and a Level 2 qualification.
In addition, candidates will need to volunteer for 20 hours of poolside experience.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, February 16.
