KEIGHLEY people are being encouraged to 'adopt a planter'.
Residents can fill their chosen plot with flowers, shrubs or fruit or veg.
The People's Planters scheme has been launched in the Lawkholme area.
Spearheading the project are Bradford Council and Keighley Town Council, in collaboration with horticultural social enterprise Bradford Works.
Plants and seeds are provided and gardening tools loaned, plus advice is available to anyone new to gardening.
At the launch, horticultural students from Shipley College helped prepare the planters.
Noreen Akhtar, assistant director for neighbourhoods and customer service at Bradford Council, says: "Inviting people to take on their local planter is a fantastic idea. Gardening in this way encourages people to get to know their neighbours and nurtures a sense of pride."
A Keighley Town Council spokesperson said: "We hope to encourage local people to participate in this incredible community project."
