A NEW cafe and bakery shop have opened at Cross Roads.

J Wild (Confectioners) Ltd bought and transformed premises situated next door to its existing outlet in Haworth Road.

And the new-look facility has now opened its doors to the public.

An official unveiling was performed by Keighley MP Robbie Moore.

Other guests at the launch included local district councillor Rebecca Poulsen and parish council chair Councillor Tito Arana.

Ann Scott, a fourth generation member of the bakery's founding family, said: "There was a great turnout for the opening, with lots of familiar and new faces in attendance.

"People were able to reminisce about Wild’s and its history across the local area since 1928. Many stories were shared with members of the local community, those who have worked with Wild’s in the past and our loyal customers.

"Whilst our premises may have changed, we are still the same Wild's bakery that our local customers know and love, with the added bonus that people can now order an even wider range of food and drink to eat-in at our new cafe or take away to enjoy.

"We've received positive feedback from the community via social media, with locals saying they are happy to see 'places like this opening instead of buildings left derelict' and 'it breathes a ray of sunshine into our village'."

She added: "The whole family is delighted to be carrying on the heritage passed down through four generations, from John Wild, by serving our local community.

"This is an exciting new venture for us and we would like thank every person who has shown us support."

The original Wild’s Bakery was established in around 1899 at Morecambe, in Lancashire.

Annie Wild ran the bakery shop and a boarding house, whilst being a full-time mother to three boys.

Her eldest son John decided to move to Yorkshire in the 1920s, away from the seasonal trade, and he and Annie opened a shop at Haworth. There they started to build the heritage of Grandma Wild’s recipes.

In 1928 John bought larger premises just outside Haworth and they remained home to the family bakery until the millennium, when the firm moved to a site at Steeton.

Mr Moore said it was "a real privilege" to be invited to open the new cafe and shop.

"The opening marks a huge and exciting step forward for the Wild's business," he added.

"The shop and cafe will be a great asset for all in Cross Roads and the wider Worth Valley community to enjoy."
