A LONG Lee man has thanked the public for its support after he raised over £2,200 for the Salvation Army through running in the London Marathon.
Shaun Roberts completed the 26.2-mile course despite suffering an injury part way round the route.
"I felt great until around eight or nine miles when I blew my calf muscle," he says.
"Despite excruciating pain I managed to walk, jog and run along the route, helped massively by my fellow competitors and the brilliant crowd which offered encouragement every step of the way.
"I made a lot of friends and became quite emotional at the end, a mixture of elation, disappointment, exhaustion and relief!
"I'm grateful to everyone for their support, and the generous people who have donated to my chosen charity."
Funeral director Shaun, undaunted by the injury, plans to apply for next year's event.
