BIG screen showings of the coronation are taking place in Keighley town centre and at Silsden on Saturday (May 6) as part of a host of celebratory activities.

In Keighley, attractions organised by the town council will begin from 10am at Church Green.

There will be inflatables, children's rides and birds of prey, and charitable organisations will have stalls.

A Big Lunch street party is being held, where families can take along picnics.

The Mad Hatter and White Rabbit will join in the fun.

There will also be a screening of the film Paddington, plus a tea dance and cream teas.

People are being encouraged to don royal or literary-character costumes, with £5 The Works vouchers on offer for the best.

A prize is also being given for the most creative costume made from old clothing or waste materials.

In Silsden, The Hive is hosting a royal party, from 10.30am.

As well as the big screen showing of the coronation at the community centre, in Elliott Street, there will be attractions including a bouncy castle, stalls, face painting, games and a bake-off-style competition.

Refreshments will be served by the Friends of Silsden Town Hall.

"This will be the first time most people have witnessed the coronation of a new British monarch and as the nation celebrates we welcome the people of Silsden and neighbouring villages to join us for the occasion," said a spokesperson.

"Families can watch the event together on the big screen and there will be lots of attractions outside. This is a chance for the town to raise a glass at a once-in-a-lifetime occasion."
