CREWS remain at the scene this morning after a large wildfire occurred in the Bradford district last night.

The fire took place near Glen Lee Lane at Long Lee in Keighley.

Nearby residents reported large amounts of smoke and fire near to Harden Moor.

Firefighters from Keighley say the blaze was "quite substantial" and they had to "work hard to get around it" due to its location and lack of water access.

Keighley were joined by units from Bingley, Fairweather Green, Shipley, and Silsden following the call just before 10pm on Tuesday, June 13.

Two pumps remain at the scene this morning.

At 7am on Wednesday, a West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: "It happened on Glen Lee Lane at Long Lee.

"Two pumps are still there at the moment.

"We received a call at 9.52pm on Tuesday evening.

"There were five units sent.

"We are doing relief duties now, just dampening down."

In a later statement at 8am, the spokesperson added: "Crews are in attendance at a large wildfire in the Long Lee area of Keighley with the first attendance being on Tuesday evening.

"Nearby residents reported large amounts of smoke and fire near to Harden Moor.

"Crews confirmed the fire, involving heather, measured approximately 200m x 200m.

"Three sectors, four hose reels, two large jets and a fire fogger were used by crews to extinguish the fire.

"The fire is still currently ongoing with crews in attendance."

Crews from Holmfirth, Odsal, Stanningley, and Halifax were also at the scene.
