KEIGHLEY'S Cliffe Castle parkrun is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the NHS.

The event this Saturday (July 8) will be supported by doctors and staff from the Modality and WACA practices across the district, and participants are encouraged to wear blue and white.

Haworth GP Dr Jo Buckley, who will be race director on the day, says: “We want people to celebrate the 75th birthday of the NHS and what better way to do this than by getting up and coming along on a Saturday morning! Please come and run, walk or volunteer but above all get active – it’s great for your health!"

It is among hundreds of parkruns across the UK holding activities to mark the health service milestone.

Cliffe Castle parkrun, which takes place every Saturday at 9am, sees people walk, jog or run around a five-kilometre course in the Spring Gardens Lane park.

The event is volunteer-run, free to enter and open to people of all ages and abilities.

Before taking part for the first time, entrants should register online – at parkrun.org.uk/register – to receive a barcode which they then take along to every event. The barcode is scanned at the finish and each participant later receives their time.
