POLICE have carried out an operation in the Worth Valley following concerns over motorists' treatment of horse riders.
Officers from Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team took part in the Close Pass initiative, around the Oxenhope area.
"This operation was following concerns being raised about the manner in which some drivers have been passing horses," said a spokesperson.
According to the British Horse Society, the number of incidents nationally involving horse riders and vehicles is increasing.
Last year, 3,552 incidents were reported to the society.
Sixty-eight horses died and 125 were injured, and 139 people suffered injuries.
Just over a quarter of riders said they had been a victim of road rage or abuse.
Advice to motorists if they encounter a horse rider is to slow down to a maximum of 10mph, be patient, pass the horse wide and slow leaving a gap of at least two metres, and drive slowly away.
