A WEEK in May will be the subject of a talk to the National Trust Airedale & Wharfedale Association.
Chris Helme will speak about the period in Irish history which saw the murders in Phoenix Park, Dublin, of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Thomas Henry Burke, in May, 1882.
Lord Cavendish was the newly-appointed Chief Secretary for Ireland and Burke the permanent under-secretary.
The association meeting is at Shipley Library on Saturday, September 2, at 2.30pm.
Formed in 1971, the National Trust Airedale & Wharfedale Association has raised thousands of pounds in support of trust properties and appeals – particularly in the north of England.
It meets monthly between September and April, and organises excursions during the spring and summer.
