A 'MEGA fun day' has been hailed by organisers as a huge success.

Long Lee's village hall and cricket club joined forces to spearhead the community extravaganza.

In the morning, a Coffee and Cars event was staged in the Long Lee Surgery car park. It featured more than two dozen vehicles, from classic motorcycles to retro sports cars.

Refreshments were served in the village hall, and over £200 was raised towards the upkeep of the building.

"The hall volunteers were kept busy providing food and drink," said a spokesperson.

"A big 'thank you' goes to Modality Partnership for allowing the free use of its car park, and to everyone involved.

"Coffee and Cars was so hugely successful that it's planned to hold another next spring."

In the afternoon, Long Lee Cricket Club hosted its annual, free family fun day.

Attractions at the well-attended event included a bouncy castle, assault course, archery provided by the local Scout group, stalls and a display from Grace Dance Company.

The end-of-season parents versus children cricket match and junior awards presentation also took place.

And the newly-refurbished pavilion was officially opened. Amongst those at the ribbon-cutting ceremony were the club's president Brian Blowes and chair Neil Kennedy, and Keighley town mayor Councillor John Kirby.

The spokesperson said: "A massive 'thank you' goes to the mayor for attending, and also to local district councillors Caroline Firth, Malcolm Slater and Lisa Robinson for being there and their continuing support and help.

"The work undertaken by the cricket club over recent years has provided a community venue for a number of different sports and activities, and there is now also a pavilion that is welcoming and comfortable, and food and drink can be provided at cricket matches and events.

"Tribute goes to the committee and all the volunteers for organising such a great family fun day, which goes from strength to strength every year and raises vital funds for the juniors at the club."
