ATHLETE and devout Christian Eric Liddell – whose story featured in 1981 movie Chariots of Fire – will be the subject of a talk at Lees.
Tito Arana will speak about the runner at the latest Lees Methodist Church Meeting Point, on Wednesday, November 1.
Maurice Baren, for the church, says: "Eric Liddell won the 400 metres at the 1924 Paris Olympics.
"His favoured race was the 100m, but the heats were on Sundays so due to his faith he transferred to the 400, whose heats took place on a weekday – and he won!
"He was a dedicated Christian, later becoming a missionary in China. It's a fascinating story."
The meeting is at Lees Methodist Church, opposite the primary school, at 2pm.
