A FAMILY trio which took on the Great North Run in a poignant tribute raised just over £1,600 for charity.
Mark Clarkson and his daughters Georgina and Charlotte Clarkson tackled the world-famous half-marathon in support of Marie Curie.
Their effort was in memory of Mark's mum, and the daughters' grandma, Mavis Clarkson.
Mavis, who died in May, and members of the family received support from Marie Curie during the final months of her life.
"All the challenges we faced during training and the run itself were more than worth it for the money we raised – surpassing our original target of £1,140," says Charlotte, from Keighley.
"We'd like to thank everybody for their generosity.
"After all the support we received from Marie Curie during my grandmother's illness, we were pleased to raise enough money to fund 70 hours' vital nursing. And we all finished the run in under three hours!"
