A KEIGHLEY karate and kickboxing academy has received glowing praise.

Tribute was paid to Sensei Sheikh Shito ryu students after they displayed their talents at a grading and certificate ceremony.

The event – at Keighley's Sangat Centre, in Marlborough Street – provided an opportunity for young students to pass through the club's ranks and earn a new belt.

They were tested on a variety of movements.

Grading ceremonies take place just four times a year.

Guests at the event included Keighley MP Robbie Moore and town mayor Councillor John Kirby.

Mr Moore said: "It was absolutely brilliant to be invited along by Sheikh Muhammad Layek Miah of the club to watch the latest grading ceremony.

"Watching the young and talented students perform some incredibly graceful katas and powerful moves on the mats was a real pleasure, and I know just how hard all the students have worked for their new belts.

"A huge 'well done' goes to all at Sensei Sheikh Shito ryu Karate & Kickboxing Academy on their success."

A club spokesperson says: "We welcome participants of all ages and physical abilities, and from any background – from total beginners to any previous grade."
