A KEIGHLEY business is supporting an orphanage in Zimbabwe.
Control Technology UK Ltd formed a link four years ago, when the company provided a desperately-needed new roof for the facility. And earlier this year, the firm supplied a new kitchen.
Due to the pandemic, Control Technology director Henry Pettinger hadn't been able to visit the orphanage, but he took the opportunity whilst attending a business conference in Zimbabwe in October.
He says: "The buildings are in the middle of a beautiful but poor rural area, approximately 100 kilometres from Harare.
"There were over 70 children when I was there, with a healthy, homemade meal being provided by local volunteers. There is a handful of resident children, with other youngsters attending on special occasions.
"The centre had a vibrant feel about it and the children were happy and thankful for the smallest of items. Toys, books and clothes are transported from the Mpika charity shop in Denholme via Priscilla Choto, who lives in Keighley. There's an amazing team of dedicated workers."
Henry hopes to provide a pump so fresh water can be supplied to the site, which currently relies on a well.
