MORE than 100 new bus drivers have secured employment in the region following a specialist training programme.
The free Route to Success venture was launched to help tackle a bus driver shortage in West Yorkshire.
Funding for the programme was provided through the devolved adult education budget of West Yorkshire mayor, Tracy Brabin.
Realise Training ran the scheme.
Ms Brabin says: "We’re upskilling people across the region to support bus operators and get passengers where they need to be.
"I’m thrilled that we’ve helped over 100 people secure good, well-paid jobs following our investment into this training.
"This is devolution in action, and it’s helping us build a stronger and better-connected West Yorkshire that works for all."
Gregg Scott, of Realise Training, says: "Route to Success is an innovative programme launched in West Yorkshire and now being delivered in a number of areas across the UK.
"Bus driver shortages are a common problem around the country and we are proud to be playing our part in addressing what's a major issue in many communities, as well as providing opportunities for individuals to launch a new career."
