TIM Bastow will be guest speaker at the first gathering of the new year for Lees Methodist Church Meeting Point.
He will talk about – and show photographs of – his grandfather, Thomas Edge, who went to see on a cargo ship when he was just 16 years old.
"Thomas went in what today would be seen as a small ship through stormy seas to places such as Sweden, Finland and Russia," says Maurice Baren, for the church.
"We are delighted to welcome Tim, who is well known locally. He has a fascinating story to tell."
The meeting takes place at the church, opposite Lees Primary School, on Wednesday, February 7.
Tea and biscuits will be served from 1.45pm, and the talk starts at 2pm.
