A KEIGHLEY opticians is staging a free health screening day.

The event – at Airedale Opticians – will assess people's risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and raise awareness around the issue.

Screening will be carried out using the LifeMeter, a state-of-the-art device supplied by The Body Doctor.

The technology measures carotenoid nutrient levels within a minute, using a fingertip scan.

Mo Hafejee, optometrist and Airedale Opticians owner, says: "We are committed to providing comprehensive eye care and believe in proactive health measures.

"This groundbreaking technology allows us to identify potential risks early on and empowers our customers to take steps towards protecting their vision and overall wellbeing.

"The LifeMeter’s accuracy is scientifically validated through peer-reviewed studies.

"The presence of carotenoids in the skin serves as a vital indicator of a person’s health. Low levels are associated with increased eye strain, night vision difficulties, poor contrast sensitivity and slower cognitive processing.

"Additionally, research suggests a link between low carotenoid levels and an increased risk of sunburn, brain fog and even Alzheimer’s disease."

The screening day takes place on Monday, May 20, at Airedale Opticians' Towngate branch.

A limited number of appointments are available. Contact the branch on 01535 690077.
