PEOPLE from across the district are being invited to attend a memorial service marking the 39th anniversary of the Valley Parade fire disaster.
Fifty-six people died and hundreds were injured after fire enveloped a stand during Bradford City's last home football match of the season – against Lincoln City – on May 11, 1985.
The service takes place on the anniversary date, Saturday, May 11, at the memorial sculpture in Centenary Square, Bradford, starting at 11am.
Amongst those in attendance will be relatives of people who died or were injured, together with a civic delegation from Lincoln and representatives of both football clubs.
Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Gerry Barker, says: "It is extremely important to the city and the district that we take time to remember those who were affected, and those who continue to be affected, by the tragic events of May 11, 1985.
"I invite people to join us in Centenary Square as we come together to pay tribute."
Bradford City chief executive officer, Ryan Sparks, says: "As with each year, it's hugely important for us to be able to pay our respects to those who lost their lives, and families that remain affected by the disaster."
