AN appeal has been issued after a dog was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident.
The German Shepherd was left fighting for its life after it was involved in a collision in Bradford Road, Riddlesden, at the junction with Bar Lane.
The vehicle, described as a grey Audi A3, failed to stop.
Two-year-old Benson is now back home after undergoing treatment at the vets, but owners Kimberley Spencer and her partner Jed Richardson say it's still unclear whether he will survive his extensive injuries.
"He's been so strong and wants to stay with us but at this point it's 50-50," says Kimberley.
"Most of his injuries are internal.
"His lungs have sustained most damage – over half his left lung has been badly affected. Following the incident he had to have large air drainage constantly for ten days.
"He's been on pain relief since it happened and only time will tell if his body will heal.
"He is currently in a stable condition at home, with strict rules in place – constant monitoring and a vet on call if needed.
"He was uncomfortable in the kennel at the vets, and they felt he may heal quicker at home.
"Benson has changed so much, and to see him in this condition is heartbreaking.
"He is a warrior, and deserves justice for what has happened to him."
Kimberley says the incident occurred after Benson became spooked by his surroundings and managed to pull his lead out of Jed's hand whilst being walked.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened between 8.30pm and 9pm on Tuesday, June 4, to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to call West Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting log 482 of 5 June.
